Chris-
No, the cross-brace had to go bye-bye. The hood rattles a bit, but it's certainly not excessive. There was no way I could figure out to fit a 7hp fuel tank under the hood in the original location with the taller (10hp) engine without removing the original cross-brace. The catch-22 was that I was more interested in the look of the fuel tank and could care less for the cross-brace.

Let me know if you have any further questions or need pictures....

MARTY G. - I'd be the LAST person to try to talk you out of an I-R compressor. They're a great compressor. When I made the decision to get the bigger compressor I went to my local big box store and looked over their 7-1/2 HP 2-stg 80 gal I-R. I'd bought a slow moving stainless steel top chest tool box there a couple years earlier for 25% off list price.

I made the dept. manager an offer on that I-R compressor for the same discount. I pushed and poked all the way up to the store manager and they wouldn't budge on price after over an hour. I finally said, "FINE, I'm going to BUY a compressor this morning, too bad it won't be from you." Which they could have cared less about.

About an hour later SON & I were hooking up my 7-1/2 HP 2-stg 80 gal. P-C in the shop. It was cheaper by about 25% than the I-R but also not quite as good of compressor. It has some features the I-R didn't, like inter-stage and after-cooling of the compressed air, the I-R only had inter-stage. But the I-R was 100% duty-cycle while the P-C was only 50%. For use in my shop it's still PLENTY big enough. And with the bigger hoses I plumbed the shop with my impact wrenches, etc. run SOOOOO much better.

Since I got that compressor, my assortment of 1/4" die grinders are the most used tools in my shop, I have straight shaft, 45 degree shaft, and 90 degree shaft.

FINALLY found an IH built 782! Brought it home yesterday, hopefully get some pictures of it today if I get time. Replacement series II engine, wheel weights, hub caps, part of the rear lift, deck, and manuals. Its a little rough, but there is DEFINATELY potential! Need to do some work on the front tire, keeps going soft (looks to be original one), grill needs work, tune up, gas cap needs replacing, finish off the rear lift, replace dash panel, has a chunk out of it and a crack in it, likely replace the ignition switch since the key almost falls out of it (guess that's why the chain is attached to it). So far I am happy with it....can't beat the price either I think.
Thing is....the wife doesn't know...so keep it quiet!!

Mike,

Congratulations on your 782 find! If you don't mind me asking, how much did you give for it? The reason I'm asking, I'm going to look at what I think is a 782 this afternoon and make an offer on it. The guy says he wants $700, but the pictures show it to be pretty ragged.

I was recently given a #2 cart in very good condition. As the final step in restoration, I would like to add side boards. The Owners Manual only mentions that stake pockets are in the cart for the owner who may want to add the side boards. What I'm wondering is: 1) Did IH at any time make availble a stake kit for this cart? 2) Do any members of this forum have pictures of side boards they have made? I do woodworking, but need some help with size, proportion, etc. This addition is mosly for show - not utility.

I think everyone is out working on their cubs. I was, but got tired and the threat of rain and cold air helped me to quit.
Removed the tires from the 6/12's, sanded the insides and sprayed with rust restorer.

Assembled my refurbed grote light, put it on my 70 and wired it up. Found out that paint doesn't necessarily need to go on everywhere. Makes it hard for the lighting to have a ground!

It's so cold I had to fire up the wood stove.
Now i'm gonna go and fire up the grill...i'm hungry!

Barbecue chicken anyone?

well it was bound to happen. Last fall I picked up a 127 so I would have something to plow snow with and boy did I plow snow. So I looked around and picked up a snowthrower just to be safe. Then it was a carcass of a 123 that I stripped for parts..... Well I then stumbled on a two-fer deal; a 125 and a 129 with plow. Then as if the planets aligned my buddy gave me a 1200 (quietline). By now I'm deep into cub territory and my wife's looking at me kind of funny like.

My name is Bob and I'm a drinker with a Cub Cadet Problem...

Robert K, we all have yellow fever around here. Been in the garage all day taking the Carlisles off the 125 and putting on the 126. Removed the windbreaker and hung that up in the attic. Added extra weight to the left side of the 126. Anybody here going to Danville, PA for plow day on april 16th

Can anyone point me in the right direction to disassembly and rebuild the unloader valve on a 129 Hydrostatic transmission? The one for reverse is stuck in the down (unloaded) position and I can't get it to pop back up.

First place I looked but no go! Basically the pin on the top has been depressed by the previous owner and it will not go in reverse beause of that. So, I'm looking for a fix versus a replacement.... Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Robert K.
I guess you didn't look far enough.
We have TWO FAQ's ya know.

55. How can repair my hydro relief check valves? Part 1

55a. How can repair my hydro relief check valves? Part 2

Unless you have the equipment and the know how, I wouldn't repair them, JMHO!

It's easier to wire brush them clean, then soak them with PB Blaster or Kroil for a few days, gently grab the stuck one if there's enough to grab with needle nose pliers and pull and rotate it back and forth unless it frees up.

Hello everyone,

A great find on the original . looks like May 1961 for your tractor. It will be nice to see some more pictures of it posted. The rear wheels look to be to wide in the picture you posted to be stock ,but It does have the hood bling and looks in great shape. A nice O for sure.
