The Little Woman and I spent most of the day (night) supporting the financial security of PB Blaster. More pieces of Master hit the floor. Took a picture of the coil wire. How's that for showing it's age! Once we fished out the wiring harness out of the engine compartment,we found this handful of copper, insulation and disappointment. Any idea what this used to be?

As Matt G. mentioned recently in another thread, that series of Cub Cadets had some issues with the wiring harnesses. If that set outside uncovered for any length of time the wires likely wicked up moisture and then corroded from the inside. On any wire that sets out where it can get wet it can wick up moisture, they might even look near perfect at the ends but deep inside the insulation they can be powered copper. BTDT :(

Seemed odd that we fished out everything and that was in the steering tower. Almost like a separate wiring harness going to the rear. Almost like somebody cut off the ends and left it there.

WOW!!
What a freaking mess!!
Looks like you are due for a complete ground up restoration!
Only way to go now that you are this far into it IMHO
I'd go that route in a heartbeat.

Yep those wiring harnesses were bad. I nearly burned up my 147 while mowing way back when.
