Upgrade Now582 special was economy version of 582 the special was belt driven 582 was hydro driven.
While the transaxle was driven by a belt, it still had shaft drive to a right angle gearbox that drove the belt. It's basically the same setup that the 1100 and 482 had, but with the engine that the 582 had (which was a pretty solid engine at the time).582 special = belt driven peerless 4-speed transaxle similar to JD and other brands at the time
582 = IH 3-speed rearend typically used in IH Cub Cadet gear drive tractors. 582 is not a hydro.
