Can anyone help me figure out why when I engage the electric clutch the motor dies. It is a honda gx620 motor. Every thing else works but the electric clutch any ideas or sugjestions greatly appreciated. Thanks Cody

Cody: Does the engine die without the PTO connected? If so, the problem may be at the PTO switch or in the chassis wiring to the switch. If disconnecting the PTO allows the engine to run, then there is a problem is with the PTO.

The engine runs perfect without the pto engaged as soon as the switch is fliped it dies. I replaced the switch and the wiring. Might have to get another NEW pto I bought that brand new about a 1 1/2 years ago but just last week started swaping the engines and got it in and running friday night. So i will try another pto. Thanks for your input Jeremiah.

Cody: A PTO should last 18 months! If you have an early 582 (S/N < 720,000), try disconnecting your hour meter; if you have a later 582 (=>720,000) your PTO is dependent on both the Seat switch, the Reverse switch and their respective relays. If you have the later style, I don't have any experience with that layout, although I understand the switches & relays are functioning to "latch in" the circuit; I would hot-wire the PTO to see what's going on, perhaps someone with more wisdom and expertise can chime in.

The wiring diagrams are accessible from the main page.

Jeremiah I removed all the factory wiring harness and started from new. the pto is 18 mounths old and just pulled out the original box thursday night. Never been used, but after a closer look the wires ended up being marked backwards the pos is now the neg and the neg is the pos. it works flawlessly and tilled the garden fine. But Thank you for the advice.
