1882 opinions

I just purchased an 1882 with a 60" haban deck from my neighbor, he was about to scrap it. The only issue is missing a hood and the hydraulic lift lever. (I paid $50 for the 1882)

I've got into the hobby of collecting garden tractors the last few years, I have a MTD 990 with 3pt and front blade(that I love), a 1450(future restoration), a few Sears suburbans, John Deere 245 and 345, and a Bolens 1600 hydro eliminator. Since I've got the 1882, it is by far my favorite, the motor runs great but has a small oil leak from the pto side seal, has just over 1000 hours on it.

I have an IH 42" trip blade from the 1450 that I would like to attach to the 1882, but the longer wheelbase seems to require longer supports to reach the cross bar under the tractor.

Does anyone have any experience, suggestions, advice or opinions on this machine?

If you need the hangers for the cross bar, let me know. I have them available for either style super. early or late.

Your super is higher off the ground (bigger wheels & tires) as well so you will have to accommodate for that with your front bracketry on the IH blade.

The 1882 used a Haban 54" blade that is completely different from the front blades on the standard frame garden tractors. It is much heavier and stronger.

I'd start with a mule drive frame snapped onto the Q/A and go from there with whatever was needed.
Should not ne too hard if one is handy at fabbing stuff.
Matt, that blade is just like the one I snagged last week for $300

There was a 54" Super blade with hydraulic angle on CL in Ohio for $350. I see them occasionaly on CL. Your 1882 probably doesn't have the hydraulic port up front, just two 3/4 inch holes where they would install. Snowblowers for this model pop up on CL pretty frequently also. You probably have the Kohler 18 HP Magnum? Great engine! I've had a number of Supers, IMHO best garden tractor ever made.

Jay, where in the world are you located?
Supers seem to be coming out of the woodwork it seems around here lately.
We picked up an 1872 for $200 last week and there was another for $800 and several more in the $1200-$1800 dollar range on FB & CL
Another just popped up this AM, a 2072 w/60" Haban 374 deck for $800 in Green Valley, IL

Yeah, it has the 18hp magnum. I still need to replace the front seal and find some front deck wheels, but I did find a solution to the missing hood for the time being. I plan on restoring this at some point, but for now it's just too much fun.

I believe Charlie has the deck wheels at CCS.

Those wheels are hard/impossible to find, front and rear.
I better check CCS!

Double check the width of the rear brackets, but I am 98% sure I used 2 each of the following part numbers from www.surpluscenter.com to replace the wheels on mine. Scrap the caster brackets. Front: 1-1721-R and Rear: 1-1722-R
