rebuilt the carb on my 1872, runs great - tonight I discovered a big problem. now I have oil coming from the steering column. It is coming from the top of the column under the wheel.

any comments or advice as to what is causing this or what seal is bad? Thanks in advance

Yea, that is a big problem. It is blowing passt the seal and filling your tube up. Bad news is that its taking fluid out of your hydro unit and resivor. You will need to take the unit out and have it rebuilt cause the problem will not go away. I have not personally had one apart but seen schematics of them and there are too many pieces and plates that i would want to play with. Hope someone here has more info.

If you are fairly mechanical you can probably rebuild it yourself but DO NOT attempt it without
the service manual. Someone said the seal kit is cheaper from the green dealer or a simplicity dealer. I think I did one either at the one dealer I worked at or at a CC service school but it was a long time ago.

Todd, Aaron,

Thanks to you both for your advice and help! parts (seals) are ordered.
