I noticed while watching a rebuild video that my tractor is supposed to have a rubber hose that connects the oval shaped hole on the air intake to the blower shroud on the engine. Are there any potential problems I could run into if mine is missing? I'm curious, what was the purpose of this design? Aiding airflow to the carb?

Without it, the carb is going to draw in potentially very hot air from inside the engine compartment instead of cool air from behind the firewall.
Thanks! Does the part have a specific name? I checked the service manual but can't find a reference to it.
