Cub Cadet 123 - Hydro Issue

Make sure you index the pieces so you put it back together the same way as it comes apart.. the late (and missed) Don Tanner had a long thread a few years ago on rebuilding the charge pump in which he rotated the end of the pump 180 degrees.. Didn't work to well..

    Chirping sound

If it's doing it under increasing load or when starting it cold, it could be a leaking headgasket:(..

    Engine Overhaul

Tried to find it, no luck. Tip: Check the crank where the oil slinger is pinned to the throw - I had to replace the crank in a '58 8HP that broke across the throw where the pins were.. (Probably my fault, good running engine, but I was lugging it too much). Dennis Carpenter Cushman Catalog...

    Tie rod ends

The used ones I've found were, ahh ..... used. Worn enough in the center of the worm to bind on the end of travel if adjusting the slop out in center of travel :( . I considered the possibility of just regrinding to the bring it back clean and same size from end to end with a profiled stone...

    QA36A snowblower/thrower wear bar/scraper bar/shave plate

You can tell that auger has never seen a gravel driveway!

Original Cub Cadet High Altitude Carburetor

Just a thought, I'd try lowering the float level (not drastically), as that does affect the fuel/air mixture (the lower the level, the required suction to pull fuel into the venturi is greater). If it's an older carb with a high speed adjustment, turn it in a little to lean it up.

Look what followed me home this weekend.

I learned that with my drill press. Luckily, I can move it around.. I can't believe the condition of the ways on it, David, looks freshly scraped!

    Welcome !

OK- cause now I got questions... where's the link to Cubfaqs and the "manuals" link isn't manuals.. I assume this is still a work in progress (and I give my whole hearted support to you - I spent 40 years in IT on big iron, networks and later on remote management of about 52,000 desktops) ..

    S/G

Yes, and there should be felt inside that holds the oil IIRC.

    Welcome !

Hi Angie, just wanted to welcome you and your team to the Forum. I've been around a while (some time in '99) and am very glad to see the promise of continuation. It's kind of like that old pair of shoes that's too comfortable to throw away - the feel of the changes is, still the old shoes...

Charlie: Looking at Mike's website brought up a question I've asked before.. Has anyone ever come up with a method for rehabbing the Ross steering sector worm gear.? As everyone has had happen, they wear at the center, so if you try to adjust the follower pin to close up the gap, it'll bind on...

As I said, it's a WAG, need more pics... it's just there's no visible steering, CV joints, linkage, etc. Maybe it just goes in a straight line?

The decal on the side says "Front Wheel Assist", which to me means not full time. I'm guessing that's a hydraulic motor and it uses wagon steering (solid axle, whole unit swings )..

Your high speed (main jet) passages are plugged or the main jet is undersized. Choking it increases the vacuum at the venturi in the carb, which increases the fuel flow, but with a bad air/fuel ratio. You've pretty much defined the problem (Cheap Amazon replacement). Quality control is really...
