Bob P. I would like to know myself to stop it from happening in the future. Taking a novice guess I'd think that maybe the PO didn't torque the head down properly or that he didn't notice a small headgasket leak, and it just kept burning the head. It is quite a trough. My downsized photo doesn't...

Well I installed the new points and condensor on the K181 today. I tried to judge how the old timing was set and the points were opening way to soon. I tried Matts static timing and it worked good for a novice like me. Put everything back together and it started right up much easier than before...

Dave I just found a nice looking one using the search. Search for 72 wiring diagram and use the "AND" function on the search page and it will be for the date August 03, 2005

Bob Proctor here is a picture of my K181. It's 11 1/2 inches to the bottom edge of the outside cover. I don't know the history of the engine as I bought it about two weeks ago. Hope that helps.

Didn't have any white paint handy so I asked the wife for some old nail polish and gave it two coats.

Finally found my "S" timing mark on my K181. Seemed to be easier to locate as the sunlight faded. Hoping to get some time tomorrow to install the new points and condenser. Am I correct that I should clean the new points before using them? Can I buy contact cleaner at my local parts store and...

Jim Diederichs Thanks I just got home with a new set of points and condensor. I go and and try again. P.S. Sometimes I miss my slide rule. Everybody was amazed at the accuracy of the answers. If I remember correctly my ruler was only about a foot long and I could get three decimal places to...

Trying to static time my mod 70 with and K181 that I recently installed, and is overheating. I pulled the point cover and the points look very bad: all black and heavily worn at an angle. I did note with some surprise that when I was removing the K181 from the parts tractor that actualy ran that...

Thanks Matt I give that a try. Couldn't find it with a search, but I downloaded it from your web page "how to".

A few days ago I changed out my 7hp on my mod 70 to a K181. Started up and ran fine for about 20 minutes. At times I could feel it shudder then if I stopped mowing it would clear up. Later I discovered it was overheating and I shut it down. After it cooled it started right up. I searched the...

Frank that makes sense to me. I ran outside and installed it on the end of the crank and voila! I had been spinning it in my hands expecting it to lock what a thunderhead!!!! Mine just had the set screw po must have taken the set screw/nut off at some time. Between you and Ken I might just...

Ken I see the concentric ring on both the front of the locking collar and the rear of the bearing, but when I mate them they do not lock. Either the bearing or the locking collar is somehow worn so they wont lock. Don't know how to tell which is worn or both. My quess is that the locking part...

Jeff the other part to the right of the creeper shift lever is a breather for the creeper housing. Can't tell from the photo, but it looks like the top of yours is missing/broken off.

I've got another question about my mod 70. I have installed the Flywheel Pulley w/Clutch Drive assembly and need to install the bearing and locking collar. In my manual it talks about locking the collar to the bearing "In the direction of the crankshaft rotation" The locking collar has two set...

KENtuckyKEN Thanks that picture was a great help to me. Those bolts are really hidden from sight. I found one bolt loose and the other missing altogether. Just tightening the one bolt made a made a big difference. I'll get a second bolt in there in a minute. I still need to rebuild the steering...

Pulled the bad 7hp engine from my mod 70 and starting to pull the replacement from the parts tractor I bought. Taking a quick look at my mod 70 steering while the engine is out of the way I see that there is quite a bit of slop in the steering tube assembly as I turn the wheel. The tube itself...

Well the grease and dirt are coming off. Found an old faded sticker on the gas tank of 7hp, but on the engine spec plate it was a K181. Spec 30564. The chassis serial number 98894 is in the range of the 70/100 series so now I am guessing I have a mod 70 with a 8hp engine from a model 86. Still...
