it is alive! new plug, 128 started without a problem. and, i now know how to properly test for spark and my new spark tester does not work. so, it is a great day.- fsnerd

on my way out to try starting the 128 with a new plug. if backfire can kill a plug, then that is probably what happened, it backfired every time it stalled when hot.- fsnerd

coil has not been Ohm tested, hopefully today. coil, plug and coil wire will be tested. i also have the old coil and coil wire i can try putting back in. so far, all i know is, there is power going to the coil, but no spark on the coil wire with a tester and no spark at the plug while...- fsnerd

yes, i know may volt test only told me it is getting power, not what the coil is putting out. testing power going in to the coil was only to eliminate a broken wire or something not letting power get to the coil.- fsnerd

yes, it is a Kohler coil. i will try the paper clip test, but the spark tester should have ruled out the plug, i would think. but, two different types of tests with the same results are always better.- fsnerd

i dont need an exorcism. although, i have tried everything else. i think the problem is, the last owner never serviced it,everything was broken on it. i should have just rebuilt the whole thing, rather then doing it one part at a time.- fsnerd

i will test the coil and jump the ignition switch. i already have that coil test schematic from the time it was suggested i test the coil to see if that was causing the stalling. only problem is, nobody likes my 25 year old engine analyzer ohm meter, so i am sure my test results will set off...- fsnerd

ignition switch has not been replaced. i should be able to jump the ignition switch to test it. but, if i am getting 12V at the + side of the coil while in the ON position and while cranking, it cant be the ignition switch, can it ?- fsnerd

Richard Palmer (Rpalmer), beat me to it. I thought in the old cars, stepping on the pedal set the choke and squirted gas into the carb. so, it would not work on the Kohler. playing with the choke is not working, maybe I flooded it. I will try again tomorrow. I think am going to buy the...- fsnerd

Ryan D Wilke (Rwilke)- filter i had on it was similar to the " ONAN / 149-2206-01 " you linked to, but it was for a car. many on here felt since it was designed for a fuel pump system, i should not use it.- fsnerd

1 1/2 hours. full throttle. mower on. cutting the lawn. never stalled. bad news is, the JB WELD is deteriorating quickly. but, at least i know what is wrong . guess i will try a muffler patch on line. maybe new exhaust in the spring. but for now, time to put the snow blower on and see if...- fsnerd

yes, i realize JB weld might have a problem with the heat. it is not recommended for exhaust systems. but, i could not find any exhaust cement locally. no matter what i patch it with, it probably wont hold for long . the only real exhaust repair i can do is to replace the whole exhaust system...- fsnerd
