    Work begins on 104

Matt, you are correct, I forgot to have the nut on the shaft. So what I learned. 1) Soak with penetrating oil for a long time. 2) try the knee removal technique in combination with the tapping of the shaft technique. 3) if still no luck use puller but leave nut on shaft to protect shaft end...

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried the knee thing and didn’t have any luck. I also hit the end of the puller multiple times when it was under pressure. I also left tension on the puller for a while 30+ minutes. No luck. Not thinking the steering was going to be this tough I used the cone...

Well rough day working on 104! Wanted to go through the steering column. Step 1 remove the steering wheel. After a couple days of soaking the steering wheel in pb blaster I was hopeful! Hope was short lived! Steering wheel wouldn’t move. Took some time to build a plate for the puller. Looked...

    Air intake hose 782d/1512

Was working on the 1512 today. Had to remove air filter housing. Noticed the air intake hose is starting to crack. Went online and it looks like replacement are not available. The cub cadet part number is 735-3018. Any ideas?

Honestly I have found very little difference in prices for OEM parts online. Often prices get even closer when shipping is considered.

    Adding Hour Meter to 104

With all the new parts/repairs/rebuilds I am doing on my 104 I was thinking about putting a hour meter onto the tractor. Seems like multiple options for mounting a standard 2” hour meter. Anyone ever do this? Photo examples would be great!

IH CC 782 Conversion to U-Joint Drive Shaft

I did the same CV conversion to my 1711 with parts from Jeff. Here is the link to some photos. https://www.ihcubcadet.com/threads/1711-driveshaft-upgrade.8294/

Thanks! I am moving forward on things. I ordered most of the electrical needs (harness, voltage regulator, ignition switch, etc) from ccspecialties yesterday (already shipped!). I found and ordered used ignition switch cup and retainer at IHCCW (already shipped). I spent some time online...

Anyone use these pressure plates? Seems like a set of 2 is the same price as a single cub cadet. https://www.jensales.com/products/hycapacity-cub-cadet-104-residential-mower-pressure-plate-heavy-duty-new-8301030.html

Thanks Matt! This is my first gear drive. Wear was so deep I actually thought it was designed that way. Guess not! List keeps growing.

Engine start was successful! I dropped it into the tractor frame since I didn’t have a great stand. After my post yesterday I researched the wiring diagrams and as jstich said it only needs a few wires. So a couple jumper cables and a spare battery the motor started up. While everything was...

Been a busy day! Lots of parts installed then removed and reinstalled after I put on engine tins. In the end the Kohler is back together. I have a few items to take care of before I can fire it up. Need a v-belt for the starter/generator and have to figure out wiring. My plan was to...

    saving a few dollars

Charlie, thanks for sharing. Manufacturers just stop supporting older parts. I have experienced this with snowmobiles, atv’s and even newer Chevy trucks. Thanks for all that you do tracking down these parts for us to keep our machines running.

Everything coming together well. Been following the service manual step by step. Thanks for passing along the link. Does anyone know the thread type and size on the exhaust? I looks like 1 1/4” npt to me. I might try to find a tap. I forgot to ask the machine shop to clean the threads...

    Cadplan loader for 1512

Wood shed expansion going well. Or should I say the true purpose “Cub Cadet Storage!” Gravel loaded and spread with cub cadets! Turns out I have some extra bags of concrete mix from the post bases. How heavy should I make the rear weight for the 1512 with loader? Think in terms of 80lb bags...

    DRIVESHAFT QUESTION
