    Those pesky pto set screws

I bought a fibre one, and promptly broke it on install (i was just in too much of a hurry)... Then, I purchased (5) Bronze 5/16"x 18 - 1" hex-head bolts (locally- less than $.50 each), Rounded over then polished the heads in my drill press, One has been in my tractor since may 2020... and...

A place for random photos,,,with no specific topic

We have a nesting pair of Red-Shouldered Hawks in a tree in the back yard. We've been watching them for about a week... We believe the larger/darker breasted bird is the female, and the lighter mostly white underside is the male.

    my button's missing

Which "button" are you referring to? The button that is part of the PTO, or the botton on the lever that releases the clutch? For the latter... I just buy a 5/16" x 1" bronze bolt, and use a grinder to round the head off and smooth it down. VERY cheap (about $3 ea)

    Welder madness

1963 Studebaker Hawk... someone welded the harmonic balancer, to the end of the crankshaft.... in the wrong place I might add.... (pulleys didn't line up very well)

Cub 169 no spark after burnt points

we all referred to them as Delco "window-type" ignition parts. The distributor cap had a moveable "window" that you opened for access to the points while the car was running.

    Battery maintenance

I use Battery Tender Jrs, for my Cub 108 and all my motorcycles. Some I use year-round, because (2 of) the bikes aren't ridden regularly ... I have a Cub RZT50 that sits under my deck, and not stored inside. I have a solar battery charger from Harbor Freight hooked to it whenever it isn't being...

Voltage Regulator and continuing carb issues

I also recently bought a repop carb... I swapped my old carb choke plate and shaft into the new carb... and everything fit like it was supposed to. You have to be careful getting the old carb's choke plate screws out... If you don't grind the exposed threads off, you will likely break the...

    Hoods and the constant rattle

The previous owner of my cub- installed some heavy door hinges. They've been trouble-free since 1996. About the only modification I see is drilling the holes in the correct place.

    1512 Muffler

I welded up multiple cracks in my 1430 muffler (not nearly as thick as your muffler)... and fabricated a sheet metal bottom. It was like welding to tin-foil, but that muffler is pretty much NLA ($200+ for just the left one) Now it sounds fine, and should last as long as the original (27 years...

1993 CC-1430 Hydrotatic Dump Valve not working (can't push the tractor)

Pulled the "valve" out of the front of the hydro's case (and oil ran out).. Couldn't see anything wrong with it, passages were clean, shaft and seals were OK. I went ahead and reinstalled it, and now the relief-valve works- and I can push the tractor around. There must have been something stuck...

1993 CC-1430 Hydrotatic Dump Valve not working (can't push the tractor)

Thanks Digger, I don't have the service manual for the 1430 and 1730- just the Operators manual. So, I couldn't read up on how/if it can be serviced. Does the dump-valve just unscrew? will the drive fluid pour out? (just to have a pan ready). what do I look for as far as if the valve can be...

1993 CC-1430 Hydrotatic Dump Valve not working (can't push the tractor)

I have a 1993 Cub 1430 Hydro. It has a 14hp Kohler and everything operates as it should. However. I don't use the tractor, so I don't keep a battery in it... Occasionally, I need to move it so I can mow around it, or just give the grass under it a break. When I push the dump-valve lever forward-...

    Anti-zero turn

I can do my yard (only 1/2 acre is grass- rest is woods).. in 12 minutes with the RZT-50. But, I don't like it. I have a steep downhill-side hill along a drainage ditch, that the RZT runs-away downhill. I can't mow uphill, as the grass would go onto the neighbors driveway. The 108 just gently...

    Gardens 2020

Got some pics of our 2020 Garden: This is the "trellis" made from wire fencing. When the cucumber vines get about 2' tall, we train them up the trellis. The cukes hang, so they are off the ground, and are pretty straight. It's also very easy to pick them from underneath. You see that we have a...
