Fordson/Ferguson or When Harry met Henry

Great story! My grandfather had an 8N and many years later my father bought a 600 - still in use today. Tough little tractors.

    Brake return spring on 1811

It took several tries and a few choice words, but I got it. Thanks again!

OK, thanks! I'll give that a shot tonight.

    Brake return spring on 1811

Can anyone point me in the right direction for where the back loop of the brake return spring (932-3010) is supposed to hook? The front is obvious to me, but I can not recall where the back was hooked. Description is fine, pictures are better. Thanks!

Found a pump to use for parts (thanks Kent!). Thank you to all who replied with offers.

Looking for a ported pump or complete rear end. Or could use non-ported pump for parts. Input shaft must be in good condition. Prefer pickup within 100 miles of Northwest Indiana/Chicago area.

    1811 Drive line carnage

Well... I've learned the hard way what happens when you ignore a strange vibration in the tractor for all summer. Finally tore into it last night and was dismayed to see that the rearend is loose in the frame which allowed the hydro input shaft to move up and down, facilitating the "wallowing"...

    46GT deck vs. 44C

Thanks for the input. I remembered reading that one of the 'GT' decks was good, couldn't remember which one(s). I'll hang on to what I got for now and keep my eyes open for a 48GT or 54GT some day.

    46GT deck vs. 44C

I have the opportunity to get a 46GT deck at a reasonable price. I want to put this under my 1811, would this be an upgrade from the 44C in terms of cut quality?

1811 Surging at less than full load on engine

My M18 recently started surging when I turn off the PTO and set the throttle below full. I first noticed it after two hours of mowing, when I slowed the engine down to pull the lawn sweeper. I've read that surging can be caused by a blockage in the idle circuit of the carb, so I've taken the...

While working on changing my broken hydro fan last night (thanks Charlie!), I noticed that the fans - both old and replacement were molded in the city I work in. Thorgren Industries is just down the road from where I work. Been past their business hundreds of times and never knew what they...

While on the subject of necker knobs/spinners, who makes a good one that will last for more than a year or two? I'm about to put my third one on my tractor and would like this one to last.

Charlie, I mostly lurk here as I have far more to learn than I do to offer. I'm sorry you feel slighted that more people didn't comment on the reproduction hoods. It is hard for me to be excited about the news because I don't have one of these tractors, nor are they on my list of tractors...

    782 restoration homework

I'm not Brian, but I'll chime in here... I've removed oil seals by drilling a small hole and driving a sheet metal screw into the seal, grab screw with pliers and pull seal out. It works ok, but after having the drill bit walk and scratch up the shaft, I realized it was time to buy the right...

    All Things Deer

Did somebody say car-deer collision? Here's my minivan from a couple of years ago. Hit a doe while doing 60 mph on the highway. She jumped over a guardrail and right in front of me before I could say "Oh Sh#t". Final bill from the body shop was right around $4950.00.

Bill- Take a look at Small Engine Warehouse (www.smallenginewarehouse.com) As an example, they have a repower kit for my 1811 that uses a Briggs Vanguard. Kinda pricey for my pocketbook though... http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/386447-Cub-1861_2.html?sc=17&category=1709178

    Raymond Loewy's Birthday

I never cease to be amazed at the things I learn by clicking on the Google doodle of the day. Today is Raymond Lowey's birthday. He is a famous industrial designer credited with designing the Coke bottle, several Studebakers (including the Avanti), and many other iconic designs. Here's the...
