    Overhauling my Cub Cadet 72

I redid my '64 Cadet 100 back in 2003, so there's alot I don't remember, but I split the tractor to redo the clutch, and since the shaft had wear grooves in it, I replaced EVERYTHING, with the exception of the pressure plate and fork. If I recall, the fork is acctuated by a special nut with a...

    M18 hot

The Kohler KT-17 engines in Cadets like the 782 also run hot. As for fuel running into the cylinders, I installed a shutoff valve in the line just before the fuel pump. Easy to get to....just raise the hood

    low spark

Use a thumb. It'll be close enough.

    low spark

Pull the spark plug and rotate the engine to top center on compression and set your points to .020" (going from memory here). Rotate the engine a few more times, and if the point gap holds, your pushrod is likely OK. Mine is the original in my 60 year old model 100, and is still working fine.

    low spark

Print it out. It will be easier to use out at the tractor.

    low spark

Do you have the model 105 wiring diagram? You can get it off of Google.

    low spark

With the ignition switch on, the "+" connection on the coil should be battery voltage. The "-" coil connection goes to the points.

    low spark

Incorrect point gap can cause "low spark", as can a faulty, but not completely shorted condenser.

Where can you buy American Made tire tubes in our sizes?

Last year I used some Firestone tubes to fit two 4.80 x 8 tires. I'd had the tubes for a few years, and they were ink stamped "Made in USA"....in Arkansas, I think.

K241 Oil Breather Vapor and Exhaust Fumes

Sure sounds to me like the piston rings aren't seated. I question "honing" the cylinder bore for a .005" oversized piston. I had this same problem in 2010 on a 105 that had been in the family since new. Back then, I found the cylinder bore diameter was a bit over service tolerances, but not...

    Hello from Wisconsin

On the Original, the 70, the 100 and possibly others, even fenders were optional!

    Hello from Wisconsin

Lights were an option on nearly all Cub Cadets I believe, even on the Original.

It takes an equal amount of effort to paint with mediocre paint as it does the good stuff.

    Overhauling my Cub Cadet 72

For the 6.00x12 rears, the only tires I can find that look original are the Miller Tire Firestones, and they're about $150 each. You'll never match the original Goodyear front tires, as they've been out of production for over 30 years. The square shoulder sawtooth tires is about the best you...

    Hello from VT

Sounds like an issue I had on a Cadet 104 with a K241, an engine almost identical to yours, save for the bore and stroke. I had a sticking valve that caused the issue. If I were you, I'd remove the cylinder head and check the bore for any scoring. If you find none, remove the valve chamber...

4.80 x 8: DO NOT buy wheelbarrow tires!!!

    Overhauling my Cub Cadet 72

You'd be best to Google each tire size, and see what you can find. You can get 4.80 x 8 tires at Walmart, Tractor Supveey ply and the like, but get the ones with a sawtooth pattern. Those "knobbies" just don't look right. As for the 600 x 12 tires, I spent an hour looking, and most of what I...

Does my 42" mower deck need a tensioner pulley?

I have gone on line directly to Cub Cadet for deck parts, as well as to Parts Tree, which has excellent exploded deck views and reasonable prices.
