    Saving a Farmall M

And now finally, yesterday and today. Yesterday, with the help of our neighbors (who also helped with moving the 460, the Farmall M was finally removed from the barn and transported to it's new home. We were able to get it out from the collapsing roof without causing any damage to it. The roof...

    Saving a Farmall M

Taking a break from the actual farm itself, the Farmall 460 that came with the rest of the equipment, that was sitting elsewhere, made it to the horse farm. It didn't take much to have it running, albeit off a temporary fuel tank. That tank was in fact taken from inside the barn on the farm!

    Saving a Farmall M

Then we went back again for a bit, just to spend some time inside the barn searching around for anything worth saving. There's quite a lot of stuff inside, unfortunately not all of it is worth saving. Some stuff I took includes vintage spark plugs (a few new in box) vintage equipment parts also...

    Saving a Farmall M

To start, I had pulled some of the fragile parts off the M. We also took a bunch of other stuff home, pictures below... These include an IH 2 bottom disk plow, a snow bird s226 snowblower, an unknown make rototiller, a locally built belt driven circular saw, the remains of a corn sheller, and...

    Saving a Farmall M

Much has happened since I last spoke of the farm, I forgot to ever send pictures of what I said happened last time. Major progress has now been made especially with what the original title of this thread is.....

    just a reminder about mice

sounds like it decided to do an automated balance gear delete

    Saving a Farmall M

I definitely understand the concerns, in fact we have concerns about other people doing just that. However, we do have full landowner permission to be doing this. As I stated earlier on in the thread, this whole operation is happening because of the benefits of knowing the right people. We are...

    Saving a Farmall M

Well we did end up over at the farm last Saturday, though we did not pull the M out. It was unfortunately still too muddy. We did, however, grab some other treasures in the mean time. Pictures will follow eventually....

now anyway, to get back on topic....... interesting, though it does seem they did a pretty decent job putting this together.

    Funny Ads

that's what my H currently has. There were other setups with different style loaders though. Mine is a combination New Idea Horn Loader and the hydraulic cylinder setup from something else. Had it not been modified it actually would have looked like this:

    Funny Ads

Those trip bucket loaders were quite handy for farmers in the day. They are honestly pretty cool, and that is a neat old machine. However, that particular loader raises up a little bit higher than I would ever be comfortable with! On a side note, those dual extending hydraulic cylinders are...

    Saving a Farmall M

Plan is to possibly head over to the farm again Saturday. We may try and see if we can remove the M from the barn and tow it out. In the meantime, I thought I'd show you all one other little thing we found on the property. I don't know how well it shows up, but this is an old IH hubcap.

The next project, early National reel mower

Well unfortunately that is the 60" smaller variant, this particular one is an 84". I already have a 60" one, that's the other one in a picture above. That one in the ad is way too damn nice for me to want to part out anyway, its too far away but for $300 if it was closer it'd be joining my...

The next project, early National reel mower

Unfortunately there is no known serial number lookup for these. I could probably try and look up the engine serial number and get a ballpark estimate. My best guess now is early to mid 60s. They are really purpose built machines. Meant to work and last, not so much look nice. It's something I...

The next project, early National reel mower

It may be possible to locate reels. There were never any other attachments, these were very much purpose-built machines specifically for mowing.

The next project, early National reel mower

And finally, day three, pretty much just the day of maintenance. I drove it around a bunch more in the daylight too. It works pretty well. I pretty much just greased everything greaseable, oiled everything else, and changed the engine and rear axle oil. Look! A properly functional clutch! So...

The next project, early National reel mower

Day two consisted of more driving it around attempting to break the clutch free to no avail. I did take my other National out and park the pair together for a picture. Later that evening I figured out how to disassemble the clutch. I took it all apart and cleaned out all the rust, then put it...

The next project, early National reel mower

A week after the freezing wind storm it was almost 60 degrees out so work commenced. Towed it over to the shop with the 106. First priority was getting the engine running. Cleaned the points on the magneto and that got me spark. Fuel tank was clean, was hoping the carb would be too but i...

The next project, early National reel mower

I mentioned having acquired another project, and here is my thread to document it. Unfortunately not a Cub Cadet, I haven't seen many around here lately. But this is an early example of a National reel mower. This was actually given to me as a Christmas gift. Unfortunately I was told that the...
