    I need help

Looks to me like a scrap piece of 3/4 inch wide metal banding strap would do quite nicely. Look around any place that sells lumber or ask somebody that works there for some. I always keep lengths of various widths rolled up in my inventory. Can be handy stuff in the hands of a...

    Why didn't they...?

I think a locking differential operated by a heel plunger would be a preferred option, like the kind that the big tractors have. There are times when that would come in handy. As long as your heel has the plunger depressed, you've got a live axle.

    RIP Rush Limbaugh

I remember when I was a kid I watched an episode of "Gilligan's Island" where Mrs. Thurston Howell the third ( AKA- Lovey ) said, "People who say that money can't buy happiness, simply don't know where to shop! ". Obviously not true, but funny none the less. Another is, " Money may not buy...

Well, there is Sebastian Gorka. He was part of the White House staff and is a radio personality.

    Work begins on 104

Hi Guys, Usually heat will do the trick in really tough cases, but in this case there is phenol (sp?) or some other type of plastic involved, so a torch would be really tricky to use so as not to burn the plastic. However, I have seen (but don't own one yet) is an induction heater. They...

    pins & needles

Although I like the full explanation of his build and the sourcing of the parts, I would combine the idea with the build in the post that John G. linked to in order to eliminate the rag joint style flex couplings altogether. I don't know how much movement the square sliding coupling has and...

    pins & needles

I thought I saw on this site, maybe it was else-where, that a fella built a driveshaft assembly for a 1650 that used a sliding splined yoke, two universal joints and flanges for the engine and input into the hydro. That looked like a total upgrade that got rid of the "rag-joint(s) " and all...

    1450 muffler box

When I got my 1650, the cover was "spider veined" with stress cracks, especially at the screw holes. I had a piece of fairly heavy gauge stainless steel sheet metal hanging around ( about 3\64" thick ) and I used it. I bent it in a sheet metal brake and replicated the old one and used stainless...

    Sand or soda blasting

This all depends on what you're trying to clean-up. Soda blasting works great for cleaning oxidation off aluminum as does ground walnut shell. I've forgotten what the trade name is, but I've also used a product that is like very fine beads of pencil eraser like material that worked very well...

Front wheel weights 8” for Cub Cadet 1450

I found front weights needed when plowing wet, heavy snow with my plow blade angled. Plowing without them caused the tractor front-end to be pushed opposite the direction the plow was angled. Then again the snow was about a foot deep and "sticky".

    Axles needed for a 1976 model 1650

It (or I ) did. The splines were undamaged. The axle failed about an eighth of an inch outside of the side gear. The stub that was in the gear had a conical shaped recess in it and the broken end of the axle had a cone shape to it. My guess is that the area of failure is a transition point...

    Axles needed for a 1976 model 1650

Thanks to all for your help and advice concerning my need for axle(s). I eventually found a pair listed on flea-bay by ( I think ) someone who's a member here. Even though I only needed one, I bought them both. They're in good shape with no visible defects and the rotors are in great condition...

    Box Blade/Scraper blade?

I was lucky when I bought my 1650 from the PO. It came with a "Workhorse" #14 FEL kit mounted on it. The deal also came with a "Gannon Earth-cavator" mounted on the back. The Gannon has a lever on it. You pull the lever and you can can "spin" it to one of three positions 1) a scarifier...

    Axles needed for a 1976 model 1650

Thanks Digger, I went through all the linked sites listings and didn't see any 1650 external brake type axles there. I guess I'll keep searching & waiting & searching... something will pop-up eventually.

    Axles needed for a 1976 model 1650

I snapped the end off of the right side axle right at the side gear in the differential. This is the course spline type with the disk brake rotor welded to it. If anyone has a flea-bay listing for a pair of these, let me know and I'll check it out. Lots of torque + lots of traction + lots of...

Hi Earl, Yes, it is a Gannon. I didn't know you could break a Cub's cast front axle! If that happens, I'll have to repair or replace. I've got all sorts of structural steel "I" beam and heavy wall box tubing of various sizes about, so I might get creative in my metal shop! I think the...

Hi to all, I just returned from my 5 ac. of paradise in Oregon. I brought up my 1976 model 1650 to put it to work after having done all the needed repairs. The PO had let it sit outside for many years and it took it's toll. It had not been run for at least 5-7 years. I had to replace...
