    Ammeter ?

Yesterday's mowing went into late evening, so for the 1st time I used the head lights. I noticed with the lights on the ammeter went full scale to the C side. Is that normal? Today I checked current draws and the battery voltage. At idle and full speed with nothing on the meter hovered...

    149 dying out

1 oz.? That's a bit rich. I do the .4 oz./gal or 2 oz. for the 5 gal. can.. In my VW days the valves were checked every 3K miles at oil changes. There was always at least 2 , usually #3 cylinder for one, that needed a valve lash tweaked. After I started using MMO the adjustments needed...

    Leaky Dip Stick?

You nailed it Harry. The crimp still keeps things in place, just flopsy wopsy. I'm trying a glob of Right Stuff on the center to "firm" it up and seal. Right Stuff or Toyota's FIP gasket maker is pretty good for sealing and sets firmer than most RTV type gasket makers. I guess on theses...

    Leaky Dip Stick?

While checking the oil on a 1650 with the Kohler K341, I noticed the dip stick/oil fill tube looking like a 20 year old dryer vent. It had a lot of dust and fine plant debris stuck all around the inside. This motor was recently overhauled, and all the internals including the fill tube was...

    149 dying out

Nests and air blockage would cause a stink, let alone the smell of a hot engine head.

    Lock Washers

Different ways to skin the same cat. Better control, ease on the assembly line, more torque without camming out. I recall a 1946 article in Automotive and Aviation Industries, an old trade publication, where auto makers, Ford IIRC, was adopting Phillips drive for trim screws. It was to reduce...

    Lock Washers

All good info which brings up matching the bolt/fastener grade to the job. Going to swap meets and oldies car meets I occasionally see owners scratching their heads over why grade 8 bolts on engine accessory drives are breaking. If the bolts are too strong for an application in that if the...

A cub cadet video you may enjoy!

Wohoo, enjoyed the video. Thanks for posting.

    Lock Washers

I don't use them. About 15-20 years ago I noticed they didn't do much except gouge the mating surfaces with the split style being the worst. I still use the toothed ones for electrical, especially grounding; and soft material as in hard plastics or maybe wood. The best defense against...

    2nd Coil

Well theory aside, if a meter has the function I just pick a range and test. If numbers are good, then good to go. That's all what the old guys did.

    Cub VS: Tree

Dang, that's reel nice. Now I know how to move that huge rose bush the wife treasures. Thanks for posting and well done!!

    2nd Coil

1st off the coil primary winding resistance NEEDS to be at least in the 3.2-3.5 ohm range. It's better if it's 3.5-3.7 ohms. My present coil has no markings, I don't know if it's OEM, but the primary resistance is 3.7 ohms and never gets above a warm in temperature. Lower resistances shortens...

    Wheel Lug Bolt

OK, in the "General" special torques right after the hydro torque/ specs. Odd layout.

    Wheel Lug Bolt

What y'all tighten your 7/16 lug bolts at? 50-60 lbs?

    coil question and introduction

That's the mistake. I've done the same but not on my Cub. In fact, it states in the OEM Kohler manual that coils will do exactly as you witnessed with key on and the engine not running. What it doesn't say is how long it takes, but I figure anything over 3-5 minutes depending on the battery...

    Mule drive belt.

Thanks Harry. I did replace the ISO mounts with all new bolts and rubbers. I figured with the work into rebuilding the engine, for a few extra bucks make it right the whole way. The belt is the correct length with room to adjust. This brings up a point I may post in a new thread about...

    Mule drive belt.

I've got close to 20 hours on the mower and new belt. It's working great. OEM is the way. Oh, and don't doubt the Digger ;)

    1650 Pointers

10-4 I'm practically OCD when it comes to clean.

    1650 Pointers

    Thanks, I'll check that too.
