    1450 question

The 79" belt, p/n 117465C1, fits my 1650 s/n 540720 and 44" deck perfectly. I would think a 1/2" would be a bit big for the pulley diameters, especially the idlers.

That's the same as mine under a different label. It's a good one.

    Service recommendation for k241AS

You're much safer with a thread chaser. They'll realign distorted threads, such as can happen at the top of a hole, without cutting new metal. Many times I'll find ridges at the top of holes from slightly pulled threads, just wear and tear during assembly. Most holes I will put a very slight...

    Service recommendation for k241AS

For small engine service you can't go wrong with a beam torque wrench. I've only used the old SK or Proto so I can't speak to modern names out there. They're accurate and no moving parts to fail or go out of calibration and way less expensive. If it was me I would find a well cared for SK...

    Mower Deck belt woes

Your mule drive and mower look very much like mine, which is a 44" mower, and I have all the same pulleys, 5" driven on the mower and 3" idlers on the mule drive. My tractor came with a box of belts the PO must have used and tried for the mule drive to the mower alone. There were also others...

    Kohler vs well, everybody else

Smooth as silk? I suppose it's relative. I also deleted the balance gears and added Kirk's balance plate plus new mounts and I have to say it's better than when I first got the 1650 as the idle and rated rpm have no shaking but there are vibes at 3,600 that are less than comfortable over time...

    Kohler vs well, everybody else

Good to know and confirming my experiences with the K-341. I've come to find it's way more engine than my 1650 ever needs. Tilling won't labor it, towing equipment or even 1,500 lbs of cement block they don't even bog. the tractor will spin and no hint of stall, and tall grass will exceed the...

    Leaking relief valve

Last summer with shipping mine to him and waiting, the turnaround was about 12 days. He's very good to work with.

    E Mail to Facebook ?

As long as it follows "Community Standards" :) Seriously, a local guy hosts a group about our local town's history. He created a post about manhole covers a former foundry made. The post got suspended over "manhole". Crazy right there.

    Dave S. #2 tiller refurbish

+5 years later. Great write up! I am currently doing the same to a Model 2. From the photos in post #3, there appears to be a spacer or boss in the case's lower half for a bolt that mounts the chain case to the hitch bars. I can't get the bolt out of mine. If I try driving it out, there's a...

    Another Oil Leak!

Aha, thanks! I'm reading this as similar to a transmission rebuild. If I'm in there: do it all - do it once and good to know about the jig. Just a brief history; it was parked 10 years ago when strange noises were coming from the engine. Last spring/summer the engine was overhauled with new...

    Another Oil Leak!

This is for a 1975 1650 with a S/N 540720. Last year I took time to fix oil leaks, the worst was the cork mounting gasket for the hydro. It finally could work, mow, etc. and then park and have a clean floor under it. That lasted about 9 months, and another showed up. It took some sleuthing...

    How True for a Driveshaft?

Not gonna happen on these couplers for run out. This chassis is a pre 622 serial number. Both have self aligning semi-circular ball inserts and 2 flex discs are used in the drive line with 1 on each end. The engine side adapter is new. The shaft is also new and the ball insert was replaced...

Model 1650 Kohler won't crank after sitting for any length of time

I would check the choke operation. Mine is a tad touchy when cold also. On a cold morning it needs full choke to catch but I have to be prepared to back off immediately or it riches out and dies. It also does better at fast idle until warm so moving the throttle lever open part way with the...

    How True for a Driveshaft?

New parts installed and little change with the results. The new shaft is turning with slightly less run out and pretty much the same vibes when full throttle as before. I am supposing at this point it's the nature of the beast. I've done a year or so of researching this behavior and it seems...

    How True for a Driveshaft?

Okay, here's what I've done: Mounted the mag base/dial indicator and checked the shaft R.O. It's out there in the breeze at .030-.035"; close to the 1/16" I thought I saw. The timing was a tad off. I widened the gap a skosh so now the points open right on the "S" on the flywheel. Looks like...

    How True for a Driveshaft?

The S/N on mine is 540720. So I unbolted the flex discs. They seem okay, resilient, tight bolt holes, and the ball centers are say in the neighborhood of .010-.015" movement which is just enough to move the shaft for disassembly/assembly. The spirol pins are tight enough that I used a jack...

    How True for a Driveshaft?

3 flex joints? This tractor only came with 2. I only see 1 at the rear in the Service Manual pictures. The Parts Manual lists 3 however though the line drawing depicts 2 recognizable ones. Ball bushings don't have slop I can see but I'll take the bolts out of the flex discs to be sure.

    How True for a Driveshaft?

This is for a 1975 1650. In looking things over for the season, and an effort for less vibrations, I see a slight wobble in the driveshaft from the engine to hydro pump. Having 2 flex discs, 1 one each end, I wonder how much eccentricity is allowed? As it is I can measure a runout of maybe...
