I added another, but she aint a cub

About 12 years ago my grandfather passed, and my grandmother had been letting the neighbor use my grandpa's tractor clean the lane back to their houses out in the winter ever since. Every summer since the neighbor started using this tractor, my grandma has had over $3k in repairs from the...

    106 vs 127 vs 147 Newbie Questions

Be sure the cap is properly venting, otherwise it won't allow the fuel to flow into the carb.

    New with First Cub

Welcome aboard!!! The quitelines are my personal favorite cubs. Yours appears to have the front hydraulics. And also appears to be in very good condition cosmetically.

    1862 hydraulic leak

There is an adapter that goes right in the existing hole, and adapts to #4 jic. The other end, underneath the tractor should be a male jic already. So all you are buying is the adapter and the hose and 2 hose fittings. There is no need to tap threads into the valve, unless you want to.

Bottom port is leaking at the lift/lower valve.

I had a very similar leak on my 1862. The tube had a tiny crack at the shoulder where the clamp holds it down. After about a year of searching for a used line, because a new line is no longer available, I took the tube to a hydraulic machine shop. They found an adapter that clamped in the valve...

    Motor oil

If I was in your area, I'd pay YOU a dollar a gallon for that old gas, and just dilute it in my old Ford. That 5.8 will suck down anything!!!

    Empty crankcase at 2 hours?

If you have cordless impact, like the ones used for driving screws, get the 3/8 and 1/4 socket adapter for it. You'd be amazed how much you can use it one these cubs, and power sports toys as well. Even vehicle interiors, and top end engine work. Removing valve covers and the like.

Differences between the 185 and 154

No, the 185s were yellow and white. The 184 were red, with a different grill and electric pto.

    1450 vibrations

It's impossible to perfectly balance a single cylinder engine.

Differences between the 185 and 154

Only the earliest 154s came with an IH carb, that lasted the first 1 1/2 years of production if I remember correctly. The rest got zenith carbs. Yours being a 1974 model year, the last year of 154 production, should have the zenith carb.

Differences between the 185 and 154

Is possible that someone put a dash from a 154 on it, but it's much more likely that the nose piece is a replacement that was painted yellow. They are readily available from Hamilton Bob's, and they come in white. And the nose is usually beat to a pulp. The only real way to tell what exactly you...

Differences between the 185 and 154

First off, the 185 is rated for 18 hp, the 154 at 15 hp. The difference being mainly the carburetor, and intake. Secondly, the 185 also has domed top pistons, and a slightly higher operating rpm. Other than that, they are pretty much the same tractor.

Is there a better one of the IH Cadets?

The quitelines are, not in my opinion, but factually, the hardest working cubs out there. Pre or post mtd, the 1450 and the 1650 are two of the best garden tractors ever made.

PHIL MAKOWSKI I LIVE IN BRIDGEVILLE PA AND I HAVE A 185 CUBCADET

Welcome aboard Philip. I used to have a cub loboy 185. It had the creeper gear and 3 point hitch. I loved that little tractor, until I traded it for a ih scout, that I have since traded away as well.

Matt, on the ql series, do you have to hold the lever up while you're towing, or just pull it up and let go? Before I went through my 1650 with a new harness and all new ignition system, I had to tow it almost every time I got it out. I had my bride sit on it and after while holding the hydro...
