Cub Cadet qa42a soon to be qa42b snowthrower

I may be misunderstanding your post but, hand grinding the shaft and the pulley to make an under sized pulley fit seems to me not the best way to do this. Will the key still fit? How are either the shaft or the pulley hole still reasonably round?

Inflation (price gouging) is out of control

I just clicked on the link I posted. The price is down from $1200 to $260. I don't really care what his reasoning behind the original price and I am not going to try to over analyze the purpose of it. In the end (in my opinion) he did more damage than good to his reputation as a seller. Just...

Inflation (price gouging) is out of control

I agree that it is not what we consider the usual definition of inflation. Maybe an inflated ego, his work is worth 1000% more than anyone else's.

    Cold Start

If you get all the right parts needed, it will bolt right in. As I stated earlier, at the time all I could find at a fair price was a clutch from a narrow frame. I have a 149, so the clutch arm and linkage rod had to be modified. I highly recommend this modification for cold winter starting. I...

    149 Running terrible after overhaul

So, through no fault of the condenser, the problem was the condenser as many of us had suggested. I have no problem understanding why it was so easy to overlook, it seems like a mistake that I could make but, all the off-topic comments didn't help either, if anything they were a distraction from...

I was going to suggest doing this too. I have lock nuts on the gear box yoke. There is various thickness of lock nuts too, I used the thinnest ones I had in my bin.

    149 Running terrible after overhaul

But, did you try a different condenser?

    Cub Cadet wood splitter

Yes, I agree a tow behind wood splitter would be better. I cut and split my own firewood for decades. I had heard of the screw type wood splitter but, have never seen one in action. I built a wood splitter with an 8 hp vertical shaft engine. At the time a few people wondered how or if it could...

Cub Cadet qa42a soon to be qa42b snowthrower

Whether installing a new input shaft in the gear box or not I would drill a second hole in the driveshaft yoke 90 degees off the original set screw, tap that for a second set screw. This modification seems to have worked for me. I always had a problem with the single set screw somehow working...

    149 Running terrible after overhaul

A few years ago a friend asked me if I would rebuild his Harley two cycle golf cart engine since he knew I had experience with doing that. I rebuilt the engine, did the usual prestart checks, like timing and points gap, etc. and noticed new points and condenser, everything seemed ok. It started...

    149 mower deck

There are two lift arms to raise the deck, right? Check if they are aligned. If not, one of the spirol pins may have broken or the holes may be badly worn. I had the same issue a few years ago. The above description by dschwandt is pretty much exactly what I had to do.

    Cold Start

The question asked was about a 782, I related my experiences with my 149, that seems somewhat similar in frame and fenders. I don't know why a 1450 was brought up but I do believe it also is a gravity feed like my 149 so, a fuel pump would probably be no benefit for starting. I only meant to...

    Cub Cadet wood splitter

There was no video of it working, only the two pictures and a brief description.

    Cub Cadet wood splitter

Found this on Facebook Market place. Not mine but I thought it was unusual and interesting. Notice where the starter/generator is mounted.

Adding an electric fuel pump seems like a great idea.

    Cold Start

I just replaced the throw out bearing this past week so I have recent experience with removing the clutch. I didn't have to remove the engine or the rear diff. I watched a few You Tube videos, but figured out on my own that removing the fuel tank and clutch arm bracket made it easy to lift the...
