1330 only runs on gas poured down carb

So, has anyone installed an electric fuel switch? My fuel cuf-off on my 1811 is a PITA to get to. Seems like it would be easy to add a 12V cut-off switch - ignition on = fuel flowing. What did you use? I have another 1811 with a seized engine sitting in my garage because of the fuel-dump issue...

1811 with Seized Kohler M18 Engine

Last fall, I had some fuel in the crankcase of my 1811. I thought I'd drain and replace the oil and rebuild the carb. I drained the oil and thought I'd run it for a few seconds to blast any residual oil out - which was a very, very bad idea. It seized up immediately. I took it to a local...

Sorry, Ken, but some of us don't have them old timey VOM's. And you say a digital multimeter won't work to test a condenser?

Good morning, esteemed CC fans. I'm hoping to get some help diagnosing my 147's sudden problem. I was hauling mulch over the weekend and had it idling while I dumped a batch, when it started running rough. I hopped on it and started up the driveway and it suddenly stopped. Continued...

Frank - Levers, ropes, pieces of logs, and a come-along. I would stand 'em up, then ease them into the cart. Once dumping out of the cart, I'd roll them into place with logs, that is when Ludwig wasn't "helping": As I get older, I'm learning to work smarter and not harder. I've got...

I'm working on a big koi pond and just finished moving some big-a$$ rocks using my 147 and a Cub cart I got from fleaBay for $35. That ol' 147 never fails to impress me. A couple of the rocks I calculated to weigh about a half-ton, and the 147 pulled 'em up hill with no noticeable strain. And...

Okay, so after reading the mule drive thread, I now know I will have to replace the slip-on mule drive with a bolt-on unit on my 147 if I want to use the tiller I bought. I see some on eBay for 122's, 123's, 125's, etc. I assume anything made for a narrow frame should work, right? Also, I see...

This ought to be an easy one. Pushed a little snow around and went to tighten the chains a little, when I heard a hissing coming from a rear valve stem. Now, these are are fluid-filled tires/wheels I got from Ray Weaver, so I don't really wanna have to drain 'em. Is there a way to replace the...

Nice work, Jeff. What did you use to clean? I've got a good candidate for a good cleaning. I do have a pressure washer. If I use it, what do I need to cover / protect / avoid? I assume the hydro relief valves, engine air intake, engine valve breather, any ball joints. What else?

I guess the previous owner of the blade must have jerry-rigged that setup. In order to make it right, I'll have to fabricate a new lift rod - the existing one is obviously too short. Anyhow, it's working now, so it'll have to wait for spring. Anyone have pix of where the rod attaches to the...

You're right Jim, it is different: This was the way the tractor came to me. It seems to work okay, though. And when I bought the blade, the rod went through the hold in the bracket perfectly, so it must not be too unique. Maybe the white bracket is an optional attachment?

Jim L. - Thanks for the suggestion! Your McGuyvering a steel band as a temporary electric lift brake spring got me up and running, and I was able to push around several thousand pounds of snow. I thank you, and my neighbors thank you. This was my first real snow removal project, and I...

Does anyone know if the electric lift will work with only one brake spring - at least long enough to move today's snow?

Jim - Good call! One of the brake springs shattered and bound things up. I also took the top end plate off by mistake was able to get everything together by holding the spring with surgical tweezers (that lock) and tying the brushes back with sewing thread. When I got the top back on, I...

Charlie & Kendall - Thanks. The motor is missing the connector - the wires are twisted with wire nuts. First, I'll pop off the motor and see if it works not attached to anything else. Then, I suppose I'll take the assembly apart. I'm assuming I should replace the grease - what kind?

Got to use my 147 with a blade to clear snow on the Dec. 19th snow storm. Worked great, when I had traction - which wasn't often. Got a set of used chains and - HOT DAMN what a difference! Received at least a couple of feet of snow on Fri/Sat and was able to clear my driveway and a neighbor's...

Thought I'd report back to the group in case it might help someone else. To recap, I had a problem where my 147 would get hot, then suddenly start running really rough with a valve tapping noise. I noticed a little smoke coming from the valve breather under the carb. When the engine cooled...
