    Steering help

20mm ID is going to be too loose on a 3/4" shaft. McMaster Carr 5909K33 (bearing) and 5909K46 (washers) are 3/4" ID, and as such would actually fit the spindle properly, and are US-made. Note that the combined thickness of the thrust bearing and two washers must be machined off of the axle on...

1974 IH Cub Cadet 1650 with 42" Mower and Blower

No. Have to upgrade to trailer hubs and bearings to get them to last. The spindles also need reinforcement.

    Pulley welded to crankshaft

That's not his problem though...the setscrews are supposed to just grab the back of the outer race of the bearing like shown in this picture from the service manual:

    Monkeying around in Shultzie's garage

Just curious...have you ever used one of these? I have a Mighty Mac chipper/shredder, made by the same company that made the 59M for IH. It is one of the most dangerous things I own. It has no safety devices whatsoever. Twigs get grabbed by the hammers and are pulled in instantly. Debris comes...

1974 IH Cub Cadet 1650 with 42" Mower and Blower

If you are using a loader, you absolutely will need an aux pump. Not sure where you read you could use the tractor's ported pump as the source, but that quite wrong and whoever wrote that has no idea what they are talking about. The aux hydraulic circuit using the hydro unit's charge pump is...

Does anyone know if Brian Miller is ok?

If I were you, I wouldn't give him any of my money... https://www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov/CJ38/OffenderDetails?id=53885899

    1962 original tires

Lug tires are not too aggressive for mowing. They will not leave marks as long as you aren't trying to mow a swamp. I personally would avoid the off-brand, no-name Chinese cheap tires. They tend to run small and are of poor quality rubber. Carlisle Tru-Powers are a great high-quality tire.

They will probably fit, but you have other options: https://www.millertire.com/categories/lawn-garden-tires/6-12/

Fuel pump or no fuel pump?

The bottom 1/4 of the tank is below the carb on an 82 series. The original engine had the same mechanical fuel pump the 1541 did. For about the same price as a new OEM mechanical pump, a Facet 40177 electric pump is what I would recommend.

About to bring home a 149

Governor is either out of adjustment or broken if the engine runs away like that. If it is the latter, full engine teardown required. That is nearly the last thing to come out of the engine. You will be in over $100 in parts for a new OEM governor gear and a gasket set at a minimum if you have...

1450 engine securing/mounting bolts fell out

A bare aluminum pan will transfer heat to the air better than a cast iron pan. This will slightly reduce the oil temp. I doubt the difference is enough to matter. The aluminum pan was likely a manufacturing cost savings.

1450 engine securing/mounting bolts fell out

The flat pan is for the 10 hp K241 engines. You can't use those on the 12-16 hp engines. You need the deep sump pan from a Cub Cadet-spec K301, K321, or K341. I'd look for a cast iron pan instead of an aluminum one.

1450 engine securing/mounting bolts fell out

Engine has to be removed. The issue is usually that the threaded holes either strip out, or the bolts are left loose and the mounting bosses on the pan wear down a bunch, or both.

    HYTRAN fluid

OP appears to have a 129, which has a Sundstrand hydro unit, not Hydro-Gear.

    1978 1450 just.purchased

632502 should be the break according to the parts lookup. I wonder if someone changed out the front spindles on your tractor at some point.

1450 engine securing/mounting bolts fell out

The 4 bolts attaching the oil pan to the ISO mount rails are 3/8-16 x 1 IIRC. No issue using anti-seize, but they should have a split lock washer and be torqued properly (~33-37 ft-lbs per service manual).

    HYTRAN fluid

You can use anything that meets the original Hytran specifications, but in my experience, the other generic/"equivalent" fluids lack the moisture retention properties of Hytran that encapsulate water into goo that sticks harmlessly to the inside of the transaxle instead of continually getting...

    1978 1450 just.purchased

No...there is a serial number break. Early had external brakes, 3/4" front spindles, and an iron lower grille housing. Late had internal brakes, aluminum axle tubes, 1" front spindles, aluminum lower grille housing, and the same style steering wheel used on the 82 series. Gear drive vs hydro is...
