    18 H.P Command or Magnum

Matt's notes on the swap. NOT a direct swap, but not a huge deal: http://mgonitzke.net/cubcadet/tractors/1872_ICT/CommandSwapRevA.pdf

    18 H.P Command or Magnum

As Matt stated, the Commands are "modern" OHV design. Mind you the technology has been widely around since the '40's in automotive applications, and the OHV scene in small engines began in earnest in the early '90's. I love the KT Series II and Magnums, but they have a SERIOUS drinking problem!!

    18 H.P Command or Magnum

On the Command, the oil sender port is on the very top of the engine. On the Magnum, it's on the right front side of the engine if you are sitting on the tractor. I use a brass "T" and retain the factory ***** lamp, and add the gauge.

    18 H.P Command or Magnum

Any engine with a pressurized oiling system can definitely benefit from the use of a mechanical oil pressure gauge.

    18 H.P Command or Magnum

Loose rod to crank tolerances will cause low to no oil pressure, and eventual failure. An oil pump failure , low to no oil in the crankcase, or clogged pickup screen could have starved the rod/mains to the point of failure too.

    18 H.P Command or Magnum

I like both. If you are looking to install one in your tractor, they still make the Command, so parts availability would be so much better! Additionally, the Commands use much less fuel than my Magnums.

782 Koehler KT17 series II carb kit number. Also points and condensor.

The 1864 is a sweetheart of a GT. I can take or leave a 3000 series. The Command 20 for my 582 was from a 2206. I felt no guilt whatsoever parting that one out. Other than the engine, the rest of it was very underwhelming.

    782 fuel pump

The 1872 Super GT is similar to a 782, and shares some components, BUT they have a 6" longer wheelbase and wider tread width front and rear.

    782 fuel pump

The crank height is the same, but not depth. You will need to drill 4 new holes in your engine plate, or use a plate from an 1863/1864 etc. The PTO pulley placement is important so you will have to mock it up, or search for documentation on this or other forums as for exact dimensions. The swap...

Thank you. I would eliminate the mechanical pump, since they have been known to fill the crankcase up with gasoline. I forgot to include the intake manifold to carb mounting gasket for the Carter/Kohler brand carb:

The driveshaft length will be different. The crank centerline dimension is the same, so you will use the same engine mounting spacers as with the Magnum/KT17.

The Cub Cadet specification Commands use the same crank diameter as the previous KT17's and Magnums.

782 Koehler KT17 series II carb kit number. Also points and condensor.

My customer's 782 had the Carter fully adjustable carb. The Walbro is a fixed high speed jet style, and in my opinion, pure trash. I would be seeking a much better Carter/Kohler fully adjustable unit. Those carb parts I listed are for the Carter/Kohler style carb.

These are what I used on a customer's 1983 782 with the series II KT17 a few months ago: Champion RV15YC4

Will 1862 attachments work in 782?

It's been done several times, but it is not an easy job. Some have modified the existing Cyclops dash tower to fit the 82 series steel hood. The frame mounting points are there on the Cyclops to bolt the 82 series body panels.

Will 1862 attachments work in 782?

Your point? I was only making that observation. Your question was already answered. Carry on..

Will 1862 attachments work in 782?

That's right. Forgot about the extra vents.

Will 1862 attachments work in 782?

With the side by side photo of the 82 series and Cyclops above, it is very apparent how much lower the hood was on the Cyclops, almost certainly for better visibility. Downside to that is less under hood volume and grille area could make the engine run hotter.
