1862 cyclops engine or rear end

Probably had several thousand hours on the clock. That is what the KT17's will do too.

1862 cyclops engine or rear end

The M18 is an improvement even over the Series II KT17 it replaced. The only negatives I have with the M18 is the thirst for fuel, and the governor gear.

1862 cyclops engine or rear end

The engine is easier to pull.

Does my 42" mower deck need a tensioner pulley?

It would be helpful if you could provide the model number for the deck. There should be a tag riveted to the deck. There were at least 3 variations of the 42" deck that fit the 104. Most of the idler parts are still available new. The idler arm might be the only one you will need to source used.

    982 Onan engine

The Command V twin will fit and has been transplanted in many of them.

    Motor oil

Straight 30W oil has not been affected by the reduced zinc content, mostly due that it hasn't been recommended for use in cars or trucks in several decades, thus not in use with vehicles with catalytic converters.

782 engine swap, wiring sanity check

I have converted a couple of battery ignition tractors over to the magneto ignition. I replaced the key switch with one from a 582 or 1811, then re-pinned the connector and ran wiring/ deleted wiring as needed. No issues with the conversions.

782 engine swap, wiring sanity check

Yes, the Magnum's magneto shorted to ground to kill the spark, all done with the key switch and the kill wire.

    782 Hydraulic lift.

Any mechanical implement or vehicle needs to be exercised, much like the human body. Sitting idle for long periods is one of the worst things for them. Glad you were able to get it freed up.

    782 Hydraulic lift.

In the event that the lever/linkage is seized, I would spray some Kroil or P-Blaster on it and see if it improves. If it is the valve body, they are very common if the tractor does not have the front hydraulic remotes.

    Paint problems

The only things going for Rustoleum are price and ease of availability. The OEM sourced paints are better quality, but three times the cost and somewhat harder to source. Do it once, do it right.

    1984 Cub 1711

Sharp tractor. Technically, the 1711 is a 1985 model year tractor, but could have been produced towards the end of calendar year 1984. I too have one that has a Magnum 20 swapped into it that is my plow tractor.

    MOD. 782

In PA/NY, you will rarely ever see vintage Cubs go for only $200-$300, regardless of condition.
  14. 1811Cub

    MOD. 782

That is an IH built 782. The patent decal and the lack of front frame holes proves this. Originally that would have been a KT17 series 1, which isn't worth messing with. I would at minimum swap a Magnum 18 or Command 18-up in it. That is worth $300-$400 all day every day including Sunday! That...

    782D journey

I've used his relief valves. They are as good as new!

    CCC982

There were an early small run of 1987 2072's that were Onan powered, then CCC switched to the Mag 20. I've never seen a 982 that was anything but Onan powered, at least from the factory. These tractors are so old that engine swaps have most certainly happened.
  17. 1811Cub

    682 engine number

There is/was an silver engine spec decal on the top of the engine, in the area of the ignition coil.

    CCC 682 dealer model

More info on the Borg unit: http://cubfaq.com/hourmeter.html Here is an example of the later issued hourmeter:

    CCC 682 dealer model

That is a Borg maintenance minder. This was another part that was carried over from IH production. They can be hard to read, so most have been swapped for the improved later Cub Cadet hour meters, which are easier to read.

    CCC 682 dealer model

The MTD units with the IH dashes are not what is considered "rare", but it is an interesting note. Magnums started in 1986, and can easily be identified by the lack of an external ignition coil.
