orginal paint

I have been restoring a pair of 125 Hydo Cubs. I'm to a point of paint? There are opinions, spray cans no spray can. brushes no brushes, factory orginal paint? Safety yellow, Cat yellow, Sunshine yellow? I have the capability to mix and spray my paint. So that's the way I'm going. Well am I to picky? Does anyone have a paint number for the orginal last 60's yellow paint? I striped all the paint off a hood and there were 2 different color whites. So this cub has been repainted at these once. Does anyone have the orginal White paint number also? Thanks you guys always come though.

Paint codes are here. Correct shade of white is determined by serial number. http://cubfaq.com/paint.html

Since CIH seems to be discontinuing Iron Guard, getting paint mixed like you are will be the only way to get quality paint in the right colors.

This 100 was done with the colors from that table in PPG single-stage. 483 Yellow and 901 White. It looked great.

According to my painter single stage is the best way to go. He has a PPG chart. Both Ser # are in late 60's.
Your Cub looks great.

That’s a good looking 100! I’ll have to go the PPG paint route when it comes to that stage of my 100 restoration. My only concern is the isocyanates in the hardener: how did you handle that? My plan for painting is a simple booth in the garage (plastic sheeting hung from the rafters), a Harbor Freight spray gun that will be tossed when finished, and a box fan with a HVAC filter for ventilation along with a 3M respirator and paint suit for me. My concern is taking out the family, dog and neighbors when the fumes get pushed out the fan.

Thanks! I used a supplied air system with a hood that covered my entire head, and a Tyvek painting suit for the rest. The fresh air supply is the only surefire way to prevent exposure. A fan to pull air out of the garage will help. There is some discussion on what 3M respirator cartridges will work and for how long here. If you go that route, make sure the mask also covers your eyes.

I'm no expert, but my opinion would be that as long as the dog, family, and neighbors aren't all standing there amongst the stuff you are painting, they'll be fine.

Good to know, I appreciate it! Since I will be only doing the 100 and possibly one larger tractor (such as a Farmall A or Super C) years down the line, a supplied air system may not be worth the investment (unless I do more restorations). I’m also leaning towards using Rustoleum Farm and Implement paint in the gun, which a standard respirator will probably handle (but the finish won’t be as good). I might have to sit on this for a while and pony up for the supplied system or rent one (if that’s even possible).

While I know this is Joseph's restoration paint color thread, for someone like me, who just wants to half-ass it, does anyone have a good recommendation on the off-white/cream color match in a bomb can that IH/CC used on my 104's wheels? For some reason, I've got three that look not half bad, and one that has a nice top coat of rust. So I'd like to wire wheel that down and give them all a spruce up. Like I said, I'm not going to go to the extreme of having the local PPG do an exact color match and set up a spray booth for a flawless finish, I just want to stop the rust and have it more or less match the original color, you know, from 10 paces or so.
