Upgrade NowI'm my engines, if it has a fuel shutoff, it gets turned off. Weather it's my atv, chipper, tractors, don't matter. If it's there, it's there for a reason!I learned the hard way that it is always a good idea to shut off the gas to a gravity fed carburetor when not in use. Don't rely on 50 yr. float and needle technology to stop gas at the float bowl.
That's why it's so important to have correct & clean point & plug gap, timing and good compression.
Glad you got it running.
These engines can be frustrating at times.
