My Cub Cadet 108.. it has a brand new USA Made VR new wiring harness. New/Used SG from a working and charging machine.



I have 2 brand new VR and both does this. One is from ccspecialties and other from Ebay.. the ccspecialties one is unknown brand and Ebay one is made in USA. I know the Cub will stay running even with the battery disconnected so i know its charging.. But I do not want to boil my new battery. Only thing I can think of is the F wire is Grounded out.. the Ammeter is pegged to the right. The Wireing harness is from porchelectric. Only thing i can think of is run a dedicated wire from SG to F terminal on VM to see if that would be the issue. The VM is grounded to the battery by wire from GND Terminal to Neg Post on battery. The main issue is it going full charge and over volting. I'm at a loss on what to do.
 
The voltage should be about 13/14 to charge the battery. I'd try using an analog meter instead of the digital. This is the problem when using a digital; bounces all over. I doubt an analog will bounce as bad. Have you tried running the engine wide open? It might smooth out.

Have you taken the case off the VR to examine the points? I had this issue on a Cadet 100 about 15 years ago, and one set of points was semi welded together....I forget which ones.
 
On a brand new VR? I got 2 Brand New VR one from CCSPECIALTIES and other usa made from ebay.

Battery cables connected correctly?
Check the connections on the V/R, the one under it is not a ground, it is marked G for gen.
 
You can weld the VR contacts by incorrectly wiring them. I found out the hard way several years ago.
Expensive lesson learned.
 
If the battery needs charging, I believe it will peg to the right until it gets a decent charge then will start to back off. I'd let it run awhile and see what happens with the amp meter on the dash. Let us know how this goes.
