On your A/C conversion, I would just drain the compressor and replace with 134a compatible oil. From what I've read, esther oil is recommended for your compressor and is compatible with both R12 & 134a. You also might want to replace the receiver/dryer. When you refill, with 134a, use 80% of the R12 requirement for your system. Some folks say you should flush the system but I've successfully used conversion kits without doing so.I ~did~.
It won't stay in for maybe but a year. I've got another 392 that's getting a mild street cam and head port job right now, and I've got a T-19 wide ratio and a D-300 to put behind that when it's ready, not to mention opening up the exhaust with some Tri-Y headers.
The heat right now is making me seriously consider putting the A/C system back together. I've got enough R-12 for one full charge, but someone recently told me all I have to do is buy a different York compressor and it can run R-134a.
My buddy keeps trying to convince me to take the 392 in there now and stick it in the IH Metro van you can see in the background, but I'm gonna go with a 12V Cummins in that (the current OE I6 in it is roached.) I wanna use the Metro to trailer the Scout to shows and the trails, be able to sleep in the back of the Metro, and not have to worry about busting the Scout when I wheel it, and have to drive home, which is currently the (IH?) Case.
The 63 C-1000 behind the Scout has a running stock 304 w/ a 4spd in it. The fleetside bed was rusted out, so I found a flare side, which is currently just sitting on the frame, not bolted down yet. If anyone knows of a tailgate for a flareside bed that's for sale, I'm in the market.
