    Oil pan threads worn.

Timeserts are the best option for aluminum. However in this scenario the holes are probably worn/ovaled way out of spec for anything like inserts. As David points out previously, cast iron is once and for all.

    New Power Tool

I recently purchased a Stihl brush cutter/string trimmer with the 4mix engine. They're a bit heavier but for a 4 cycle seem to have the torque and power. Any others here have opinions/experience with the new 4mix power equipment out there?

    1650 Carburetor

Mine is a Kohler 47-47802. I did a "field" repair. I found the float needle sticking. Don't know how or why it sticks, but some compressed air got blown through through the fuel inlet and a new needle put in. Now it works as before with engine starting in one or two seconds from cold.

    1650 Carburetor

2 Questions here: Over at Charlie's CCSpecialties there's a carburetor "Field Improvement Package"? What's the use or purpose of it? I have a 1975 1650 with a K341 and all stock as far as I can tell. About 3-4 years ago I put a kit in the carburetor as part of a complete engine overhaul...

129 low power at full throttle

The gas cap may not be venting or venting well from debris. Try it with it loose and the level low enough to not splash out. If it's running lean, you can check the plug color as well.

    voltage regulator

Joe, OEM or knock-off; the regulator has to match the system. One has to be for D.C. generators (starter/generator) or one has to be for the alternators used on later models. (Oops we wrote at the same time)

    Best ignition coil

Amen! I've been saying this for years but-------now the beer thirty b.s. is being preached in "CounterMan" a trade periodical for auto parts, and last year I saw it in Hemmings of all places. Sorry to hear about your overhead. Thanks for the great items I got from you so far.

    Roof painting tips

Yeah, I remember some years ago, I think it was Conklin that came out with roll/paint on roof coating. It was white, thick, and claimed to reduce heat gain or loss. A guy I bought Frazer tiller parts from used it on his double wide's roof. He claimed it cut his A/C costs in the summer by...

    Roof painting tips

I did a metal caboose roof one year that had some small holes. I patched them with POR-15 and then covered with wet patch and some seams as well. It worked pretty good for the painting later. 7 years and still holding.

    Roof painting tips

I've used Henry reflective roof paint and I had similar problems when starting on cool mornings before the day got hot. All I can say is keep it warm and stirred. Do not thin. There's a lot of solids that will clump out in the bucket if it's too thin and it'll take longer to dry as well. If...

    Electronic ignition?

As long as OEM quality parts are still around, years of trouble free service are to be had. The transdenser, Hall effect, etc are enhancements for performance; or replacements for NLA parts. I believe the transducer is still around being sold by Overnight Solutions LLC. One thing they all...

    1450 need help.

^^Excellent post Matt! For years I've used a test light to static time, but a meter is a great idea too.

    1450 need help.

I've found checking the timing with a timing light will help dial in the correct timing. There's a sight hole in the fan housing to view the timing marks on the flywheel. You want the "S" mark to line up with the index nub on the bearing plate. (this will give about a 20* advance) The timing...
